Most high school spring sports have been forced to postpone games because of all the snow sticking around, but in this first week of April the top five plays sure didn't take a hit, as there were some top notch performances despite delayed spring weather.
At number five, Tuesday's girls indoor relays at Rapids. The Wausau West shuttle hurdles team of Allison Brunner, Hailey Deschaine, and Taylor Baine takes first place with a time of 26.73 seconds.
Number four takes us to Tuesday's Merrill girls indoor triangular. In the pole vault, DC Everest's Grady Keding clears the bar at 11' 6" for the first place finish.
To the Wausau West boys invitational for number three. In the 55 meter hurdles, Athens' Danny Trimner in a close race but edges out the win with a time of 8.19 seconds.
We head to the diamond for number two. SPASH softball taking on DeForest and Angela Lange came to play on Saturday. The senior right-hander pitched an 8 inning, complete game no hitter, while striking out 11 batters. Not bad for the second game of the season.
We stay with the SPASH/DeForest game for our top play. It's a scoreless game in the bottom of the 8th and with the bases loaded, Leah Soik takes one to the left field wall. That's good enough to drive home the winning run in walk off fashion.
