Stevens Point elects new city attorney by 42 votes

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -

Stevens Point has a new city attorney and it's the first one in almost half a century.

Monday morning, city officials canvassed the results of last week's spring election and counted some late absentee ballots.

Challenger Andrew Beveridge ousted incumbent City Attorney Louis Molepske, Sr. by 42 votes.

Molepske filled the job for the last 46 years.

"The number of outstanding absentee ballots could actually have reversed election night's results, so everyone was watching to see how many of the absentee ballots that were still out, would come in the next couple of days," said City Clerk, John Moe.

Stevens Point City Clerk John Moe said out of the 87 remaining absentee ballots, only four were mailed back.
