Wausau-area 8th graders grill business leaders at career fair
1,200 Wausau-area 8th graders had a chance to explore their future Tuesday at Northcentral Technical College.
Representatives from 60 businesses were on hand to answer questions about their jobs at the career fair.
Prior to the event, teachers made sure students were ready for a professional atmosphere.
John Muir Middle School teacher Jon Winter says he encourages his students to dress as if they were preparing for a job interview.
"This is an opportunity for students to get a real life example of all the different careers that are offered around the area," Winter said.
Horace Mann Middle School student Nikolai Duerst talks about how he got ready for the career fair.
"Our teacher had a set of questions, and then we we practiced them at home," Duerst said. "It's a lot about confidence. If you're confident enough to go up to people and ask them what you want about the businesses, then you're bound to get good answers."
Businesses from a wide variety of fields including automotive, medical, and the media were represented.
