UPDATE: NWS keeps winter weather advisory active into Thursday

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Most of Central Wisconsin will continue to remain under a winter weather advisory into Thursday from the National Weather Service.

Marathon, Wood, Portage, Shawano, Waupaca, Vilas, Oneida, Forest and Florence Counties will remain under a winter weather advisory until 7 a.m. Friday because of the possibility for freezing rain.

A winter weather advisory will remain in effect until noon Friday for Juneau, Adams, Taylor and Clark Counties.

A winter weather advisory will remain active for Ashland, Iron, and Price Counties until 4 a.m. Friday.

The reason for the varying start times and multitude of alerts is that the storm spans more than one coverage area of the National Weather Service.  Alerts are coming from offices in Green Bay, La Crosse and Duluth, Minn.

A flood watch will remain active through Thursday night for Clark, Jackson, Juneau and Adams Counties.

In Marathon County, a flood advisory remains active for the Eau Claire River near Kelly until Thursday evening.  Recent river observations place the river level at 7.7 feet, 7 inches above flood stage.

In Wood County, a flood warning remains active for the Yellow River at Babcock.  Recent observations placed the water level at 12.8 feet.  The river is considered to be at flood stage when water levels top 12 feet.  According to the National Weather Service forecast, river levels are anticipated to again go below flood stage by late Thursday.
