UPDATE: "Dancing for the Paws" event raises more than $13,000

UPDATE: "Dancing for the Paws" event organizers said the event raised double the amount they'd hoped for.

They said the event raised more than $13,000, with about $3,500 of that money in audience votes for the competitors.

Organizers said they are excited to host the event again next year.

Dancers from our area hit the floor Saturday night, for the "Dancing for the Paws" event.

The event is a twist of Dancing with the Stars and a fundraiser for the Marathon County Humane Society.

Organizers said about 400 people watched the competition as six dancers showed their best ballroom dancing skills.

"We're really happy about the turnout that we've had and we're looking forward to this being one of our annual events, so next year we hope it will be even bigger and better," said Humane Society Board President, Linda Berna-Karger.

Organizers said they hope to raise about $6,000 for the Marathon County Humane Society.

Newsline Nine's Emily Neubauer was one of the dancers competing in the event.

The winner of the competition was Keith DuPuis.
