UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed in crash named


WAUSAU (WAOW) - The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says a 51-year-old Merrill man has died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash.

Gerald Russell died early Tuesday following the crash on northbound state Highway 51 near Brokaw on Monday night, the agency said.

Lt. Dale Wisnewski said what caused the motorcyclist to lose control and go into the median remains under investigation. He said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.


Authorities are investigating a motorcycle crash in Marathon County.

Sheriff's officials tell us the man driving the motorcycle is in serious condition.

Investigators say the crash happened just after 6:00 p.m. Monday on Highway 51 near the Brokaw exit.

Crews on the scene tell Newsline 9 that there was a lot of debris in the median, so they had to close the left lane to clean up for about an hour.

All lanes of traffic are now back open.

Authorities say they are still trying to figure out exactly what caused the crash.

Both The Marathon County Sheriff's Department and State Patrol responded to the scene.
