Athletic Park in Wausau is set to undergo a major renovation.
During a news conference at the Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce, the owner of the Wisconsin Woodchucks unveiled the revamping plan. Mark Macdonald says the project will cost $2,700,000 and will be paid for with private funds.
The renovation will take place in phases. Macdonald says the first stage if the project will bring new seating, luxury suites and a new press box. Later plans call for new bleachers, retail areas and concessions stands.
In addition to renovations at the ballpark a neighborhood park is planned. The Macdonald Family will donate two residential property on North 5th Street and $20,000 toward the development of the neighborhood park.
The city has also agreed to oversee improvements to the sidewalks, lighting and and parking around Athletic Field.
Two meetings are scheduled on the May 7 and May 16 at the Boys and Girls at 6 in the evening to talk about the plans.
