Wausau-area students get a lesson in Western Chinese culture through music
Students in Marathon County are learning about other cultures this week... through music.
Tuesday morning, Tarim, a musical group from Western China, paid a visit to Newman Catholic High School in Wausau.
The group was brought in by the Grand Theater, 3-M, and Arts Midwest.
They're the final visitors of World Fest, a two-year program that has brought performers from four nations around the world to Wausau-area classrooms.
"Students who have contact with the arts stay in school longer, they learn better, they're appreciative of the arts, and they become the arts patron of the future," says Grand Theater Education Director Barbara Klofstad.
Tarim will visit several other schools in the Wausau area before their performance Thursday night at the Grand Theater. That starts at 7:30 p.m.
