Wausau police launch homicide probe in man's disappearance

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Wausau police say a homicide investigation is underway involving a 58-year-old St. Paul, Minn., man reported missing after last being seen in Wausau on April 7.

Capt. Brian Hilts said Kou Thao, 26, of Wausau, was arrested in Milwaukee on Thursday after investigators were told of a April 7 gunshot in the basement of a Wausau home. Police found "what is believed to be blood" in the basement, Hilts said in a statement Friday.

Thao and his girlfriend had traveled to Milwaukee in a car recently reported stolen from 402 Chicago Ave., in Wausau, the home where the blood was found, Hilts said.

Hilts identified the missing man as Tong Pao Hang.

"The car was also recovered and evidence believed to be connected to the investigation was discovered," Hilts said.

Police tell Newsline 9 Hang was in town from Minnesota visiting Thao's aunt.

Authorities say they expect charges to be filed against Thao on Monday.
