Merrill breaks ground for new fire station

Work is now underway on a new fire station in Merrill.

Firefighters, business leaders and community members gathered to watch the official groundbreaking for the project this morning.

Fire Chief Dave Savone says some preliminary work on underground lines on the new location took place last week for the $3 million dollars project.

Full construction on the sight is expected to begin in May with the station ready to move into by January of 2014.

At one time, Merrill had two fire stations, located about a mile apart. Community leaders made the decision to build one central location.
