Gas prices spike in Central Wisconsin

Drivers in Central Wisconsin are seeing a spike at the pump.

According to the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.50. Here in our area the average is $0.17 more than that and in some places even higher.

Gas experts say the spike is due to power outages caused by severe weather.

"Specifically a few pipelines that serve Wisconsin were knocked offline by power issues. A few refinery's have been temporarily knocked offline as well. That drove up the price of gasoline very quickly on the wholesale market last week and that's what's spawning stations to raise their prices," Patrick DeHaan, gasoline specialist at said.

But, DeHaan says prices are expected to go back to normal in the next week or two.
