Inmate accused in jail attack will stand trial

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -

The inmate charged in last month's Marathon County jail attack will stand for trial.

Authorities say 20-year-old Fredrick Morris attacked two corrections officers, injuring 36-year old officer Julie Christensen critically.

Under heavy security, Morris appeared in court for the first time in this case. Morris appeared by video conference for an earlier court hearing.

Everyone entering the courtroom Wednesday had to walk through a metal detector and bags and pockets were searched.

"The sheriff's department and the courthouse made the decision to increase security for this appearance," Assistant District Attorney Lance Leonard said.

More than a dozen law enforcement officers were in the courtroom during the hearing.

On Wednesday, Morris waived his right to a preliminary hearing and a judge has bound him over for trial.

Morris is facing charges of aggravated battery with the intention of causing bodily harm as well as battery by a prisoner.

Morris is currently being held in the Lincoln County jail on a $25,000 cash bond. He's scheduled to be back in court in May.
