Fatal motorcycle crash in Waupaca Co.

One woman is dead after a fatal motorcycle crash Wednesday afternoon.

The Waupaca County Sheriff's Department says the single vehicle crash happened around 2:30 p.m. According to a news release, the motorcyclist was heading south on Highway 45 in the Town of Bear Creek.

Authorities believe a gust of wind may have pushed the motorcycle into the median curb. The motorcycle slid sideways on the concrete median curb and hit a traffic sign, officials said. The motorcyclist, a 54-year-old woman from New London, was thrown from the bike, sheriff's officials said.

The motorcyclist's name has not yet been released. Officials say she was wearing a helmet.
