Wisconsin forum: Still uncertainty about new health care law

Speakers at a health care forum in Madison say there's still enough uncertainty about how the new Affordable Care Act will look to predict how well it'll work.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison sponsored the forum Thursday afternoon. The intent was to evaluate progress toward implementing the new health care law.

James Reschovsky is a senior fellow at the Center for Studying Health System Change, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington. He says the law seeks to improve quality of care but that doesn't necessarily mean costs will go down. He adds that the law is spurring states into being more aggressive about seeking their own initiatives, which helps advance improvements.

But he also says the reforms are leading to consolidation of health care providers, which could be good or bad.
