Woman pleads not guilty to forgery, theft

WAUSAU (WAOW) - A Wausau woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the law firm where she worked pleaded not guilty to eight felonies on Thursday.

Susan Adams, 58, is charged with seven counts of forgery and one count of theft in Marathon County Circuit Court. No trial date was immediately set.

According to the criminal complaint, Adams, who also formerly worked in the Marathon County clerk of courts office, stole more than $5,000 from the law firm of Hess, Dexter, Reinertson and Brunner. Court records say Adams told investigators she used some of the money to pay back a $120,000 restitution bill she owes from a 1994 federal conviction for embezzling $119,000 from M & I bank in Wausau.

The maximum penalty for the state felonies is 45 years in prison.
