Little Plover River ranked as one of America's endangered rivers

With the spring melt off water flows easily on the Little Plover River. It stretches 6 miles from its headwaters before emptying into the Wisconsin River.

The environmental group American Rivers recently ranked the Little Plover as the 4th most endangered river in the United States.

 Barb Gifford is the President of Friends of the Little Plover River. The group is  working to preserve the waterway, which has run low or dried up several times  since 2005.

A two year study of the river  is now underway by federal, state and local groups. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources the University of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association, the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey  to create computer models aimed at maintaining healthy water levels on the river.
