House fire displaces family of six in Wisconsin Rapids

A family of six was displaced after a house fire in Wisconsin Rapids.

According to Wisconsin Rapids Fire Capt. Bob Barteck, firefighters were called at about 3:20 p.m. Friday to a house at 320 Grove Avenue. Barteck said the fire started in a bedroom on the second floor.

Six people live in the house but all of them were outside when crews arrived and no one was hurt, Barteck said.

The bedroom has flame and smoke damage, Barteck said. There is also heavy smoke damage throughout the house.

The Red Cross is assisting the family. Officials at nearby Grove Elementary School—where two of the children attend school—are also helping the family, Capt. Barteck said.

The cause of the fire is accidental, Barteck said, but it will be impossible to determine exactly how it started because of the damage.
