STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -
Congressman Ron Kind (D-3rd District) is criticizing fellow lawmakers for voting to end FAA furloughs, even though he voted for it himself.
Kind stopped in Stevens Point Tuesday afternoon. He says Congress should do more to protect programs like Meals on Wheels and Head Start for children--not just air traffic controllers--that were affected by the automatic budget cuts known as the sequester.
But the congressman himself voted to end those furloughs that had caused air travel delays across the country.
"I did because I thought for customer safety and service, but also the economic impact that could result from these regional airports--and listen, we got Mosinee, we've got Eau Claire, La Crosse right in this congressional district alone--this is the last thing we want to hinder economic growth and the job creation that we need," Kind told Newsline 9.
He said Congress should go back and deal with other effects of the sequester.
Kind spoke on a variety of other topics including veterans affairs and agriculture.
