New fraud charges against ex-Wausau businessman

WAUSAU (WAOW) - A one-time Wausau businessman accused of stealing $1 million in mortgage money from homeowners in Marathon County has been now been accused of fraud in Waupaca County.

Prosecutors said Friday that Jay Fischer, 52, was charged with securities fraud, perjury and bail jumping.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said the accusations involved Fischer's ownership and operation of Crazy J's Campground and how he solicited four investors to provide the down payment to buy the property on a land contract in January 2011.

Fischer is to make his first court appearance Tuesday, according to online court records.

In Marathon County, Fischer has pleaded not guilty to 25 charges, including racketeering, embezzlement, fraud and tax crimes.

Prosecutors said Fischer's company, Valley Title, helped homeowners refinance mortgages but Fischer never paid off eight of them.

No trial date has been set in the Marathon County case.
