Democrats discuss GOP convention

Local Democrats are talking about the state Republican convention going on in the Wausau area this weekend.

The state Democratic convention won't be held until next month, but some Democrats told Newsline 9 they hope the GOP convention is positive for the Wausau area and the state.

Democrats said they are interested to see how the state Republican convention goes this weekend.

"We'll find out just what they have to say about things," said Marathon County Democratic Party Chair Dorothy Miller. She added that she hopes the GOP convention will help improve the state. "I hope they talk about what's going to create jobs and what's going to be good for the community."

Democratic State Representative Amy Sue Vruwink (D)-Milladore said events like this are a good opportunity to meet those in power and she hopes people will make the most of it.

"It's an opportunity for people from central Wisconsin to grab these elected leaders and talk to them one-on-one," Vruwink said.

The two parties certainly have plenty of differences, but Democrats we talked to said ultimately both sides need to find a way to work together.

"Our job is to represent the people back home whether they are Democrats or Republicans. When we go to Madison, we have to work together," said Vruwink.

The state Democratic convention will be held next month in Oconomowoc.
