Hockey and lacrosse are fast paced sports. They involve hitting, stick handling, and shooting goals. It's no wonder why brothers Marshall and Sheldon Oja play both. Our Athletes of the Week began their careers in another state.
Marshall and sheldon Rojas have lived in Wausau for only two years, but the Wausau West duo has already left their mark on both the ice and the field.
The Oja family grew up in Ohio before making the move to Wisconsin, and immediately, Marshall noticed a difference in the popularity of the game.
"There's definitely a big difference between the size of the sport. Here there's not nearly as many people that play or even know the game here. That was definitely a big culture shock."
That shock didn't stop the Rojas from excelling in lacrosse. Older brother Marshall scored four goals in Monday's game against Green Bay southwest.
Younger brother Sheldon looks to follow in his footsteps, "He's probably the most athletic person on the team. I would say he's got the best hands on the team by far."
This spring is the final season the Oja brothers will play together before Marshall leaves athletics behind and pursues academics at U La Crosse.
