Debate over lowering the legal BAC

Posted:

Reaction is mixed to the National Transportation Safety Board's call to lower the legal limit for alcohol when driving.

Tavern and restaurant owner Rod Fisher calls it an attempt to drive small business owners who serve alcohol out of business.

"The limit is already as low as it can go. What this really is all about is lowering the limit to zero tolerance, " says Fisher.

Peggy Olbrantz is a member of Mother's Against Drunk Driving or MADD. She is also a survivor of a crash caused by a drunken driver that left her severly injured and killed her friend and the drunken driver.

"It's about time people are finally sick and tired of these drivers getting behind the wheel and getting in an accident and hurting or killing people," says Olbrantz. She is a supporter of the effort to drop the limit from .08 to .05.

The NTSB has made the recommendations. It is now in the hands of state lawmakers nationwide to decide what they will do about it.
