Local police honor fallen colleagues

Dozens of police officers came together this afternoon in Wausau to honor their fallen colleagues.

A special ceremony took place at Wausau's 400 block. The event is held annually in conjunction with National Police Week to honor all law enforcement officers who gave their life in the line of duty.

Today, five local police officers were remembered. Remembering those that lost their lives is something Wausau Police Chief Jeff Hardel says is very important to do.

"It is a very close, tight knit family and its just awesome that we come together at least once a year to pay honor to those officers that have given the ultimate sacrifice, but also to just be there for one another in a commodore sense."

During the ceremony, the Marathon County Honor Guard gave a special salute. State Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley was the guest of honor.
