Living history lesson for Wausau students

Posted:

History came to life for some Wausau West freshmen.

The U.S. Civil War has been the focus of their studies. As part of their lessons they headed outside the school to watch the 8th Regiment of Wisconsin fire a cannon that was built in 1853.

Most of the students said the sound of the cannon was much louder than they expected.

The 8th Regiment of Wisconsin is a competitive artillery team. They travel the state and share stories about life during the Civil War and Wisconsin's role in our nation's battle that pitted family against family.
