A Medford High School student is about to accomplish something few ever will. He's never missed a day of school, and now he's just a few days away from graduation.
There are 2,520 school days between pre-kindergarten and the end of high school, and Kyle Ziembo hasn't missed one.
"You don't hear of it often and it's kind of rare, just kind of a goal for me," Ziembo told Newsline 9.
Now, he's counting down the days until graduation.
"I'm excited, finally getting out of here," said Ziembo.
Ziembo says he set this goal for himself in the fifth grade, after seeing a news story about two other students doing the same thing.
"After I never missed a day, I just wanted to keep going with it," Ziembo added.
Friday was senior skip day at Medford High School. Many students spend the day celebrating the last few days before graduation, but Ziembo hit the books.
"They're like, 'oh come on, you have to skip just one day.' I was like, 'I got one week left, I'm going to make it,'" said Ziembo.
The principal says it's quite the accomplishment.
"It's a huge amount of dedication to do that. We rarely see a student go K-12 without missing a day," said Medford High School Principal Jill Lybert.
The senior now heads to UW-Stevens Point to study wildlife biology. He says his attendance streak won't continue for long.
"I want to know what it feels like to actually skip a couple of days," said Ziembo.
Until then, he still has five days to go.
