The Memorial Day weekend is traditionally the unofficial start of the summer tourism season. Area campgrounds are gearing up for the many customers likely to book sites for the weekend.
Lake Du Bay Shores in Knowlton, just outside of Mosinee, has some 200 sites on 40 acres. Many of their customers are seasonal, parking the RV's or campers for the entire summer. Others opt to stay for a few days or weeks.
Because of the long winter season, workers at Du Bay have been working long hours. Owner Dennis Stanek says there was snow in some areas of his property up until 10 days ago.
"With the heavy tree canopy, the snow remained. We had to wait until the snow and ice melted so we could clear and clean water pipes. Now that is done and we can focus on cleaning up," says Stanek.
Stanek says the have been hard and work and will be ready by the upcoming weekend.
The Leaf family of West Allis is staying at the campground until next week and enjoy fishing, hiking and riding bike there.
Steve Leaf says it is a great way for the family to get together and unwind because is it so peaceful and relaxing.
