UPDATE: Gillett man killed in tree crash

The Shawano County Sheriff's Department says a 75-year-old Gillett man died after the car he was riding in smashed into a tree in Bonduel.

The accident that killed Leon Felix Wychesit occurred about noon Monday, Bonduel Police Chief Todd Chaney said.

Wychesit's wife, 46-year-old Tina Wychesit, was driving the pickup truck and may have suffered a seizure that triggered the crash, Chaney said. She was hospitalized at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, the police chief said.

"She had a history of seizures," Chaney said.

A nursing supervisor at Theda Clark said Tuesday she could not give a condition report on Mrs. Wychesit because of patient privacy.

The crash happened on a residential street with a 25 mph speed limit while the couple was in town doing some shopping, Chaney said. It's believed the Wychesits' vehicle was traveling no more than 35 mph when it hit the tree, Chaney said.

The husband and wife were not wearing seat belts, Chaney said.
