MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin motorists won't have to worry about possible traffic delays when traveling during the Memorial Day weekend.
The state Department of Transportation says construction works on most major Wisconsin highways will be suspended starting from noon on Friday to 6 a.m. next Tuesday.
Officials say while most lanes through work zones will remain clear, drivers may still see narrow lanes, lane shifts and rough pavement.
Eight people died from traffic crashes in Wisconsin during last year's Memorial Day holiday weekend. Officials say distracted driving, speeding and following other vehicles too closely are the most common causes of crashes. In addition, more law enforcement officers will be on patrol for longer hours to enforce safety belt use during the period.
