Judge: Wife-killing case back in court July 25

MERRILL (WAOW) - A Merrill man accused of killing his wife and hiding her body in some woods won't go before a judge again for two months, according to online Lincoln County Circuit Court records.

Mark Bucki, 49, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse and strangulation and suffocation in his wife, Anita's, death.

During a scheduling conference Thursday, Judge John Yackel set Bucki's preliminary hearing for July 25, court records say. A preliminary hearing is for prosecutors to present enough evidence to convince a judge that a trial is warranted.

According to the criminal complaint, Mark Bucki told investigators that he and his wife were separated and she was living in Wausau. He said she came to their Merrill home about 9 p.m. on April 25 and a discussion about divorce lasted 2-3 hours. He reported her missing the next day.

More than two weeks later, a rural Taylor County couple on a walk spotted some human remains about 10 miles east of Medford and they were identified as Anita Bucki.

Prosecutors say the 48-year-old woman was stabbed seven times and she was strangled.

Mark Bucki remains in jail on a $2 million bail.

Bucki's attorneys, James Lex and Jessica Schuster, did not immediately return a telephone message for comment.
