MILWAUKEE (WISN) -- Milwaukee's Powerball winner was introduced to the public Thursday afternoon, and he had another surprise.

Jason Peck, 35, of Milwaukee, is Wisconsin's latest known millionaire after winning $1 million in Saturday's Powerball drawing. He's been waiting six years for the right moment to pop the question to his fiancé, and this was it.

"Baby, will you marry me?" Peck asked Thursday afternoon.

He proposed twice during the same news conference.

Peck is a construction worker. Meredith Phillips is a nurse. They have been taking care of Peck's dad, who is a paraplegic, for several years, so the money will come in handy.

Peck's mom, Jill Johnson, said he deserves some good luck for a change.

"He needs it all. He's had no breaks in four years," Johnson said.

Peck bought the ticket at the Pick 'n Save at North and Humboldt avenues a few minutes before the 9 p.m. Saturday night cutoff. He spent $6 on three tickets and didn't check them until more than 24 hours later.

"I can't say I've had anything like, super lucky like this," Peck said. "This is the first great thing that's happened."

"In your life?" WISN 12 News reporter Mike Anderson asked.

"Yeah, in my life, yeah, besides meeting my fiancé, I can't think of anything that's been this great, this lucky," Peck said.

"And I'm still in shock, too, about the proposal, too, so thank you," Phillips said.

The couple also plans to take a cruise, perhaps a honeymoon cruise.
