UPDATE: 86-year-old motorcycle driver dies after crash


UPDATE 6/2/13: A Lincoln County Sheriff's Lieutenant tells Newsline 9 a motorcyclist who crashed on Highway 51 on Memorial Day weekend has died.

Lincoln County Sheriff's officials say 86-year-old Leonard Benson lost control of his motorcycle and crashed last Sunday.

Authorities say he was airlifted to Aspirus Hospital in Wausau after the crash.

Officials say Benson died at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau on Thursday.


An 86-year-old motorcyclist remained in critical condition Monday after losing control of his motorcycle on a major northern Wisconsin highway and crashing.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department says Leonard Benson crashed his bike on Sunday afternoon and was taken to Wausau Aspirus Hospital in Wausau.

A nursing supervisor said Benson was in critical condition Monday.

According to the sheriff's department, the crash happened on U.S. Highway 51 between Tomahawk and Merrill and closed the northbound lanes for more than hour.

Benson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the sheriff's department said. What caused him to lose control remained under investigation.
