UPDATE: Ringle man killed in sport car crash

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says a 52-year-old Ringle man died when the sport car he was driving went out of control on a curve, went into a ditch, hit a culvert, flipped and rolled over.

Speed was a factor in Sunday's crash of the 2001 Chevrolet Corvette near Ringle that killed Peter Fisher, Lt. Dale Wisnewski said Monday.

The man was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, Wisnewski said. A 29-year-old female passenger, Antonia Zak of Wausau, had her seat belt on and was not ejected but she was injured and taken by helicopter to a hospital, he said.

A nursing supervisor at Wausau Aspirus Hospital said Zak was in fair condition Monday.

The crash occurred on County Highway Q about 7:45 p.m., Wisnewski said.

Marathon County Sheriff's Department officials say one man was killed in a crash in Ringle on Sunday evening. Officials say a female passenger was also injured, and was airlifted to a hospital.

Authorities say a crash reconstruction team has been called in and the investigation is on-going. They say County Highway Q at Pine Street is closed, and the road will be blocked for a few hours.
