Milwaukee Art Museum to showcase black artists


MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee Art Museum is opening two exhibits featuring the work of African American artists exploring identity in contemporary America.
   "30 Americans" includes nearly 80 paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, and digital media art. The pieces tackle issues around race, religion, gender, sexuality, and cultural identity.
   The 31 artists involved include Nina Chanel Abney, John Bankston, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Mark Bradford and Nick Cave.
   The exhibit is organized by the Rubell Family Collection in Miami.
   The museum is also featuring 30 works by 30 black artists from Wisconsin entitled "Wisconsin 30." The artists include Marlon Banks, Reginald Baylor, Tyanna Buie, Evelyn Patricia Terry and Della Wells.
   Both exhibitions run June 14 through Sept. 8.
