A historical artifact from World War I is on display, after it was hidden away for decades.
Lincoln County Veterans of Foreign War Posts rediscovered the very special plaque.
It listed the names of Lincoln County World War I veterans who died while serving.
It was unveiled at a ceremony in Merrill Monday. The massive, refurbished marker is coupled with an existing World War I memorial that was dedicated in 1923.
"We created what we hope is a very nice, permanent marker and tribute to World War I, lest we forget," said Steve Sabatke a member of the VFW post 10203.
Extensive renovations were also done to the existing memorial.
The snowmobile trails opened in Vilas CountyFriday at 5 p.m.
