Wisconsin home sales on the rise

Home sales in Wisconsin are on the rise, following a nationwide trend.

According to the Wisconsin Realtors Association, existing home sales in April 2013 stood at 5,922, compared to 5,367 in April 2012.

In addition to the increase in sales the median price increased from one year ago, too. For April 2013 it was $138,000. In 2012 it was $128,000.

Many experts are looking to new home construction as an indicator that the industry may be seeing a turn-around after the fallout from the economic collapse.

The Wausau Area Builder's Association has its annual Parade of Homes June 4-9. This year there are 18 homes in the tour. Last year there were 12. www.wausauhomebuilders.com

Builder Sid Sorenson says he thinks the business climate is getting better.

"We have done well over the past few years. Now I am hearing from other contractors and suppliers and it is a much needed improvement," explained Sorenson.

Marathon County's Conservation, Planning and Zoning Department tracks sanitary/septic system permits. The department has issued 25 of those this year, compared with 33 at this same last year.

The department says the lower number may be due to delays in the building season because of the late spring which delayed construction and the opening of roads to carry heavier weight limits.
