WAUSAU (WAOW) - A judge has ordered the driver of a pickup truck when his 27-year-old girlfriend reportedly fell out of the passenger door and later died of her injuries to stand trial for endangering her.
Brandon Bender, 27, of Antigo, is charged with second-degree recklessly endangering safety, a felony, and operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
A judge ruled prosecutors presented enough evidence during a preliminary hearing Thursday to warrant a trial, according to online court records. No date was immediately set for Bender to enter pleas to the charges.
Catherine Borchardt died from severe trauma to the head following the April 7 incident in Elderon, investigators said.
A criminal complaint says Bender told police that he was driving in Elderon when Borchardt fell out the passenger door of the pickup after the couple had spent the night partying. He told police he had been drinking and smoked marijuana.
