Stevens Point is hosting a fishingtournament this Saturday.
The event is big enough that a lot ofcompetitors took to the waters on Thursday to prepare.
It's called the Central River SeriesTournament Qualifier.
45 teams of 2 will be fishing on theWisconsin River for large mouth bass.
Greg Klug has been tournament fishingfor some 20 years.
Klug was out on the water Thursday withhis son, making some last minute preparations for Saturday'stournament.
"Making sure all the equipmentsfunctioning the way it should, the batteries are good, the trollingmotor, nothings broke," said Klug, Tournament Competitor.
Klug says after the 6 pound large mouththat he reeled in on Thursday, he's confident this weekend will gowell for his team.
"It ended up being the biggestlarge mouth I've caught on this stretch of river, ever, in 20years," added Klug.
Mike Hofmann is the tournamentdirector.
He's been tournament fishing for closeto 20 years.
Hofmann says the Stevens Point event ispopular because it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to enter.
"It's quite a bit different, it'sactual work, but it's the thrill of the competition," saidHofmann, Tournament Director.
He says that's what attracts 45 teamsof anglers to this event.
"The competition is great,"added Hofmann.
Fishing will start at 6:30AM in themorning on Saturday, and continue until 3:00PM in the afternoon.
The winning team takes home close to$1,700.
"It should be a lot of fun, thereshould be some great big fish brought in, and a lot of good stories,"said Klug.
Organizers say this event is attractinganglers from all over the Midwest.
The snowmobile trails opened in Vilas CountyFriday at 5 p.m.
