Walker says voucher deal 'pretty close'

Gov. Scott Walker tells The Associated Press a proposed deal that would expand private school vouchers statewide is "pretty close to completed."
Walker said in an interview Friday that he supports parameters of the deal that would expand vouchers but limit enrollment to no more than 1,000 students after next year, capped at 1 percent for any one district. He says there may still be "little tweaks in terms of the particulars," but the major components are solid.
Terms of the agreement Walker reached with Republican legislative leaders were first reported on Thursday. Walker says his goals have always been to grow the program outside of Milwaukee and Racine, and this deal would do that.
He says the enrollment limits can always be broadened in future years.
