The state softball tournament takes place this week in Madison and Newman Catholic is getting set for its first ever appearance.
The Fighting Cardinals made quite a turnaround after losing four of their last six games in the regular season before making a run in the playoffs.
"We kind of put it in our heads that this is it. There's no next year," Newman third baseman Kaetlin Hindzel said. "There's no Newman team as it was this year or last year even. So we just all kinda buckled down and came to play."
Now the team prepares to play New Lisbon in the division four semifinals on Friday.
"It's exciting. It shows all your hard work and that we want to be practicing, we want to be out here," Newman shortstop Kimberly Steif said.
"We don't want the season to end. So it's just more motivation There's not many people that get this opportunity right now."
