Summer playground program in Wausau

Now that the school year is winding down, parents are looking for activities to keep their children busy during the summer.

For children not enrolled in summer school, the Wausau Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department's Playground Program is an option.

College-age adults with leadership skills will work with children at area playgrounds. Included in this summer session are Marshall, Grant and Jefferson School playgrounds. All run from 8:30 in the morning until Noon. The Jefferson site has an additional program that runs through the afternoon.

The fee is $29 for residents and $37 for non-residents. Low income families may qualify for assistance.

Field trips are planned for most Fridays. There is an additional fee for those.

Sessions start June 10 and run to August 1.
