Controversial Rib Mountain landing strip passes...sort of

The Rib Mountain Town Board voted Tuesday night on a controversial landing strip.

But members will have to vote again—all because of a mistake on a piece of paper.

Keith Kocourek wants to build a runway near Nine Mile Forest to land his small airplane. But some neighbors oppose the plan. Some of them spoke out against it at Tuesday's meeting.

In the end, the board approved the runway but then quickly had to back-track after citizens pointed out Tuesday's meeting time was inaccurate on a public notice.

That essentially re-starts part of this process.

"We're going to reconsider at our next meeting on June 18th," said Allen Opall, board chairman. "Then, after that reconsideration, we'll open it up again for the following meeting in July where people can comment on it."

Keith Kocourek left Tuesday's meeting before Newsline 9 was able to get a comment from him on what happened.
