UPDATE

STRATFORD (WAOW) - The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says rain-slick roads likely caused a 26-year-old woman to lose control of her car and collide head-on with a semi-truck on state Highway 97 north of Stratford.

Capt. Randy Hillman said Janade Lotzer of Athens was killed in Wednesday's crash.

"It was raining. Her car may have hydroplaned," Hillman said. "For some reason, she lost control."

The stretch of road where the crash occurred has a 55 mph speed limit, Hillman said Thursday.

STRATFORD (WAOW) - The Marathon County Sheriff's Department says a 26-year-old woman was killed Wednesday when her car collided with a semi-truck on state Highway 97 just north of Stratford.

"It was a head-on-style accident," Lt. Fred Goch said.

Lt. Frank Hanousek said the crash was near where a semi and pickup truck collided in a near-head-on crash that critically injured a Colby man May 24.

Wednesday's crash happened about 7 a.m. about two miles north of Stratford near the intersection of County Highway P, Hanousek said.

The woman killed was from Marathon County and she was alone in the car, Goch said. Her name was not released pending notification of relatives.

The driver of the semi, a 52-year-old Athens man, was not injured, Goch said.

The car, a 1999 Chrysler, was southbound on Highway 97 and the semi was northbound, he said.

The cause is still under investigation but one of the vehicles drifted across the center line, Goch said.
