Turkish foreign minister angry at Kerry comments

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -

Turkey's state-run news agency says Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has reproached U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry for comments critical of the Turkish crackdown on protesters.

The Anadolu Agency said Wednesday Davutoglu held a telephone conversation with Kerry and accused the U.S. of treating Turkey "as a second-class democracy." He also complained that Washington did not react to similar protests in other countries.

A Foreign Ministry official confirmed the report to The Associated Press.

Kerry said this week that the U.S. is troubled by reports of excessive force by the police. He also said Washington is "deeply concerned" by the large number of people who have been injured.
