SPASH softball prepares for return to state

The SPASH softball team is no stranger to the state tournament as the program has been a part of it for 11 of the past 14 years. On Thursday in the state semifinals, the Panthers will face Germantown who sent them home early from Madison last June.

Tom Drohner's squad still has a bitter feeling about that loss, which only adds fuel to the Panthers motivation. Drohner knows that this year's team will have an advantage on teams in Madison, including Germantown because of the Panthers' outstanding offensive production up and down the lineup.

"We've got great team speed," SPASH coach Tom Drohner said. "We've got kids that can hit the ball and we play pretty good defense and we pitch pretty well. You mix all of those things together and that's a recipe for a pretty good team."

"This year we get to go there and we'll be hungry so we'll definitely be determined to win," said SPASH outfielder Abby Rottier.
