The regents for the University of Wisconsin System will be meeting for the first time since a legislative committee voted to slash the UW budget.
The board of regents is meeting all day Thursday in Milwaukee. The meeting comes two weeks after a key committee voted to freeze tuitions and eliminate spending increasing for the UW System.
The Joint Finance Committee was reacting in part to news that the UW System had about $650 million in reserves at the end of the last fiscal year, even as it increased tuition for six straight years.
Regents are expected to question UW officials about the changes in the biennial budget and how the UW System will deal with the decreased funding.
The meeting will be streamed live online at http://www.wisconsin.edu/bor/meetings .
