Police: Distracted teen driver causes crash

WAUSAU (WAOW) - The Wausau Police Department says a 17-year-old driver who reached over to the passenger seat of his car to prevent some items from falling swerved into another lane and collided head-on with a semi-truck.

No one was hurt.

Police say the accident happened Friday morning on 10th street near Townline Road. The speed limit on the street is 25 mph.

Police say the car's driver had his seat belt buckled. The Schofield teen was driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am.

Police reports did not indicate what was on the car seat that the driver didn't want to fall over.

A crash involving a car and a truck has closed a portion of S 10th Street near Townline Road in Wausau.

Our reporter on the scene says authorities have blocked off about a block of the street. An ambulance was also on scene.

Wausau police would not comment on the cause of the crash or if anyone was injured.
