UPDATE: Vilas County man in fair condition Monday

A 47-year-old St. Germain man who police say either fell or jumped out the back of a pickup truck remained hospitalized Monday.

A spokeswoman for Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield said the man was in fair condition following the incident early Saturday morning.

Joe Fath, chief deputy of the Vilas County Sheriff's Department, said deputies were called to state Highway 155 just north of St. Germain about 3 a.m. and found the man along the side of the road.

"We believe he either fell out or jumped out the back of the pickup," Fath said. "He was getting a ride home from a tavern."

The driver of the truck was unsure exactly what happened, Fath said.

The man was in the back of the truck because he was "a little argumentative," Fath said. It was unclear why, other than the men had visited several taverns in the area, Fath said.

The location where the man left the back of the truck is a 40 mph zone, the chief deputy said.

Sheriff's officials say a 47-year-old man was flown to the hospital after he was hurt jumping from a car in Vilas County.

Authorities say they responded to STH 155 near Birchwood Dr. in the Township of St. Germain around 3 a.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found the man on the ground.

He was flown to St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield.

Authorities say they're investigating why the man jumped from the vehicle.
