WOOD COUNTY (WAOW) -
Wood County sheriff's officials say the driver of a truck and a passenger are both in critical condition after the vehicle they were riding in was hit by a train.
Authorities say the driver, 31-year-old Donald Landis of Rhinelander, failed to stop for a railroad crossing just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday night. They say that's when the train hit the truck on Wisconsin 80 near Dexter.
Donald Landis and passenger 18-year-old Mitchell Landis were flown to Ministry St. Joseph's hospital in Marshfield. Sheriff's officials say Donald Landis is in critical condition. Mitchell Landis is in critical but stable condition.
No one inside the train engine was injured.
Traffic had to be diverted in the area for several hours following the crash.
