Ryan Braun replaced in third because of sore thumb
MILWAUKEE (AP) -
Ryan Braun was lifted from the Milwaukee Brewers' game Sunday for a pinch-hitter in the third inning because of persistent trouble with his sore right thumb. Braun struck out in the first inning against the Philadelphia Phillies. Logan Schaefer batted for him in the third and took his spot in left field. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said before the game he hoped to avoid putting Braun on the disabled list. But Roenicke acknowledged that Braun has had setbacks with the thumb as he has played through the soreness. Braun is hitting .304 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs.
