Feds send Colo $19 million in wildfire funds

DENVER (AP) -- The Federal government is belatedly sending Colorado and 14 other states $67 million to help them recover from last year's devastating wildfires and storms.
The money will help repair damaged streambeds that can cause flash flooding. The aid was held up for months during the budget battles in Congress. It was stripped from the Superstorm Sandy relief bill that passed in January.
Colorado is getting the largest share of the money. Last year's fires there scorched more than 200,000 acres along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. Secretary Tom Vilsack and Colorado Senator Mark Udall said they hope the $19 million for that state will help bring those communities some relief.
The Interior Department has also already given $500,000 to Oklahoma to help repair damage from last month's tornadoes.
